Do I have to be a Society SWE Member to attend the conference?
Yes, all UK SWE participants in the conference must be a Society and International Member. This means you must not just be a UK SWE Member. To join or renew your membership click this link: swe.org/membership/benefits/. Annual memberships are $20 and Collegiate-to-Career memberships are $50. This means that for just $50 you can become a SWE member for your entire time in college plus your first year as a professional.
How do I request a roommate?
There will be a section for this in your registration!
What if I don’t know anyone?
Everyone is welcome. Take this opportunity to get to know people!
What if I have dietary restrictions?
We will have alternate food options for any restrictions you have, just make us aware!
Will I be excused from classes?
Yes, an official excused absence letter from UK College of Engineering Administration will be provided for the days you will be away for the conference.
I need to submit homework while at the conference. Will there be access to WI-FI?
Yes, the hotel and conference center will have WI-FI, but plan ahead because we will be in a different time zone.
Who will be organizing things and available at the conference as a resource?

If I am a freshman, is it too early to go to a SWE Conference?
Not at all! Many freshmen participate in the conference each year and report the event is incredibly impactful!
If I am not interested in the career fair part of the conference, is it still worth participating?
Yes, there are endless personal/professional development sessions that run throughout the entire conference. Past participants report these sessions are life changing! It’s also great to just make connections with companies for future interests!
Where will I be staying in Houston?
We are staying at the Hampton Inn Houston Downtown that is within walking distance of the conference. There will be 4 people per room.
How much luggage may I bring on the flight?
You may bring one carry-on bag + a personal item. There will not be room for checked bags when you get a taxi or ride share upon arrival a Houston.

- Student Contribution towards Conference cost: $150 fee (if I register by 8am on 8/31) or $175 (if I register later)
- Transportation to/from home to regional Kentucky airport
- Parking fee at airport if you don’t have someone drop you off
- Uber/Lyft/Taxi with other students from Houston Airport to Hotel
- Meals on your own: Wednesday, Thursday evening, Friday evening, and Saturday.
- Society SWE Membership if you are not currently a member.
- Conference registration
- Flight to Houston and back
- 3-nights lodging
- Breakfast daily, lunch on Thursday and Friday
- Group activities
- Transportation on Saturday from hotel to NASA and from NASA to Airport
- Official excused absence letter from UK College of Engineering Administration from 10/19-10/22
- Then congratulations are in order! You are helping to defray part of the expenses to send you to conference.
- The Society SWE will issue a refund for your conference registration to you.
- You will need to pass along those funds to UK SWE since UK SWE paid for your conference registration. We purchase registrations in advance to increase chances of getting you a seat at the Collegiate Luncheon on the first day of the conference. Spots for this high impact and popular event sell out quickly.
